This resource contains a set of 26 uppercase letters containing 2D shapes. Alphabet mats for each letter with pictures beginning with the letter sound. If you are teaching or have taught uppercase letters and 2D shapes, here are some extra resources for your pupils to colour in and/or cut out and stick into their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper. The letters are on whole pages in two sizes - A4 and 8.5 x 11". Suggested Uses: Children colour in the shapes and the background and then they can draw things beginning with that letter. Children colour in the shapes only and then cut around the letter and stick into their workbook. You could cut out the letter and stick into their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper with handwriting guidelines for children to practise writing the letter and then colour in. Extension: after colouring in the letter, children can list the shapes they see and the more able can put them into ABC order. Laminate the upper case alphabet mats for children to use playdough to model the letters. 2D Shapes: square, circle, triangle, oval, rectangle, diamond, star, heart, crescent, pentagon and trapezium or trapezoid. If you are teaching numerals and counting and 2D shapes, here are some extra resources for your pupils to colour in and/or cut out and stick into their workbooks or on a separate sheet of paper. This resource focuses on repeated patterns using Christmas patterns and shapes. Students can practice creating their own Christmas patterns. Teacher’s Notes describes the lesson which you can choose to make it last throughout the whole morning or afternoon or 1 hour session. Content: PowerPoint Presentation (10 Slides) - Include whole class activities, examples of repeated Christmas patterns, in the Presentation children are asked where they have seen repeated patterns of pictures - they might mention their wallpaper at home, car seat covers, on printed clothes (e.g. socks) etc. Differentiated Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - Complete the sequence of pictures Activity Sheet 1b – Pictures to cut out to complete Activity Sheets Blank Repeating Patterns Worksheets to create own repeating pattern Extension Patterns Worksheet Extension Christmas Shapes Worksheets for early finishers A one hour lesson for students to explore repeating patterns in the context of Christmas. The lesson should last 50 mins to 1 hour depending on how long your students take to design their patterns: Introduction to set the scene: 10-15mins; Main Lesson 15-20 mins; Consolidation of lesson (work at table): 20 mins; and Plenary/Closing session 5-10mins. Bring in some Christmas wrapping paper with repeated patterns of pictures and/or shapes or you can display Slide 1 showing examples of Christmas patterns. This resource is primarily aimed at EYFS/Reception and Year 1 as it relates to counting to 10 and writing addition sentences using a Tens Frame. The only preparation is to print and laminate the A4 size task cards. Content: • All Task Cards are also on PowerPoint Slides • 10 Counting Task Cards - PDF • 25 Addition Task Cards - PDF • 2 Blank Ten Frames • Teacher Notes Counting Task Cards The cards are on PowerPoint Slides and as PDF activity worksheets which you can print off and laminate. Students count the counters or dots and write down the number. You can do this activity as a whole class. Play the PowerPoint Presentation and students can either say how many counters they see or write the answer on their whiteboards. 25 Addition Task Cards The addition task cards are on PowerPoint Slides. Hand out whiteboards/dry erase pens. Show one or two slides. Tell students that There are two blue blank boxes below the tens frame for students to write two addition sums. Ask: How many blue counters do you see? Ask: How many yellow counters do you see? Now tell the students to write an addition sum using the plus and equals sign and then to show you on their whiteboards. Ask: Does it matter which way we write the addition sum? And would it change the answer? You can print out the task cards as they are also saved as PDFs and laminate for students to practise write addition sums two ways. Other suggested uses Learning about doubles. Select some of the addition cards including those with the same amount colours on each card, i.e. 1 + 1; 2 + 2; 3 + 3; 4 + 4; 5 + 5. Activities (Colour & b/w) Four clipart children on each worksheet. Each clipart child describes the 3-D shape properties and real object. The task is to write the name of the shape. Labelling 3D Shape Pictures (x1) and Answer Sheet. There are four 3D objects in colour and black & white on the worksheet. Children label the objects with the 3-D shape used. Properties of 3D Shape Match-Up (x2) with Answers. Children draw lines from the shape to its description using different colour pencils. 3D Shape Quiz/Activity – 8 Questions + Answer Sheet. In this ‘I Spy’ autumn/fall related product, students have to seek and find 18 two-dimensional pumpkin shapes. There are two sets of ‘I Spy’ worksheets: Students draw a circle around the matching shapes: Set 1: For more able students who can find the shape regardless of the pumpkin pattern. Set 2: For students who need to see the exact pattern and shape. When all the shapes are found, students should write the name of the shape at the bottom of the worksheet.
